or Pricing University launches today, a blog devoted to the topic of pricing for the CPG industry. Pricing in CPG has been a hot topic for over ten years now. Software companies have developed sophisticated tools to do pricing analytics, rules based pricing, and price optimization. Strategic pricing has matured and grown up from the early days around Y2K. Dozens of books have been written on pricing strategy and consulting firms offer pricing capabilities charging clients thousands of dollars for advice. Many large retailers use enterprise level pricing systems to manage prices. But still what’s lacking is something simple that discusses pricing fundamentals. Retailers have all the pricing tools and weapons, so where does that leave the manufacturer? Pricing U hopefully will close that gap. It is a blog style website that I created to explain pricing fundamentals and dynamics in an easy to understand format for CPG professionals in brand marketing, trade marketing, and sales. For these folks, having a shiny new Swiss Army knife of pricing tools to battle retailers in price isn’t going to help that much. But having a fundamental skill set in pricing will make a difference.

Courses in pricing are now taught at the MBA level and executive education programs. If you already finished your MBA degree or don’t have thousands of dollars to spend taking a weekend seminar, Pricing U is just for you. Think of it as a crash course in pricing for retail.
